The weekend ended with a conscious attitude in Miami Beach after an event organized by Sanatura Yoga studio, located inside Fight Sports led by Roberto Abreu “Cyborg.” It started with an Acro Yoga class with Arianne Traverso, exercises on the ball with the black belt, Marcel Goncalves, guided meditation with Eliane Carotta (specialized in Yoga for fighters), and ended with everyone getting together and cleaning the sands of Miami Beach Beach between 73 and 76 Street. All proceeds from the event were directed to ECOMB (www.ecomb.org), a non-profit organization that preserves the beaches of Miami Beach.
Miami Beach welcomes people from many parts of the world during the entire year, and most leave their “marks” at the sand. Thinking about it, Eliane, who is always involved in environmental initiatives, has joined the athlete Roberto Abreu in taking a conscious step and promising that this was the first of many to come in 2011.
Every year about 14 billion pounds of waste is discarded on beaches, rivers and coastal waters. Plastic bags, cans and other garbage are dumped into water, killing 1 million sea creatures every year. “This time of the year there’s always something going on, and people are focused on themselves, fun events, and holiday gifts. The intent of this event was to add an attitude of social responsibility to the ‘material’ period,” said Carotta.
“I am proud of our event. It was nice to give an example,”educate,” and inspire the curious ones while watching us cleaning. We hope to inspire others to invest in actions that benefit and educate the whole community,” said Cyborg.
